Volunteers are vital in supporting the Museum, House and Garden's work. Our volunteering programmes are designed to inspire and benefit those taking part as much as they support us. All opportunities have flexible commitment requirements and aim to provide a rewarding and enriching experience for all. Get involved in a range of exciting opportunities as a volunteer,
The museum offers a large programme of events, activities and learning opportunities which encourage visitors to engage with our collections, house and gardens. Volunteers in our Learning and Engagement team help facilitate a wide range of creative workshops and activities with all age groups. This can range from volunteering in The Cube (our interactive gallery) to supporting visiting schools or helping at family, adult and outreach events.
There are seven acres of beautiful, informal gardens for visitors to explore, including lawns, herbaceous borders, a woodland walk, and a historic Victorian Walled Garden. Gardening volunteers help with horticultural tasks such as deadheading, pruning, and weeding, planting, watering, potting and sowing seed. There are also roles for those with carpentry and general maintenance skills in caring for our historic glasshouses.
