The museum holds an extensive collection of European firearms, including early flintlock pistols, German Mauser rifles, volley guns, revolvers and accompanying accessories, such as powder flasks and lubricating compound. These are not currently on display, but work is underway to provide access to this important collection via the museum’s online database.
An impressive collection of canon can be seen around the outside of the museum building and Quex House, whilst a small selection of non-European firearms can be seen in the corridor gallery of the museum. These were collected by Percy Powell-Cotton during his many expeditions and are displayed alongside an impressive array of cutting weapons (swords, knives etc.), which are predominantly from Indonesia, Malaysia and India.
