Learning Programme

Since the museum’s founder, Percy Powell-Cotton created this extraordinary museum, learning has been at the heart of everything we do.

“In trust for the enjoyment of visitors and the benefit of students”

Learning Offer 2017-2018:

The following sessions can be tailored to suit any age group or ability.

Find out more about the museum’s collection through a sensory exploration of our handling collection. This includes animal skulls and skins, taxidermy specimens, textiles, clothing, shells, ethnographic items and musical instruments. This session can also be tailored to your specific area of study. For example: what animals eat using our collection of teeth and skulls. Contact the learning team for more information.

Museum Safari: 1 hour £40.00 plus VAT* (max. 32 per session)

Explore the museum’s animal dioramas. See the different habitats that Percy experienced and spot some of the incredible animals that he encountered. This session focuses on adaptation, food chains and habitats.

Percy and his Adventures: 1 hour £40.00 plus VAT* (max. 32 per session)

This is an interactive storytelling session where your group use objects, drawing and clues to find about the real-life adventures of Percy Powell-Cotton. Become a detective and use the objects and clues to decide what you think happened when Percy met a lion. Then listen to Percy's account to see if you were right.
